{DIY} DIA DE LOS MUERTOS FONDANT & MARSHMALLOW CALAVERA TOPPERS!

Dia De Los Muertos Fondant Toppers2_TheMarshmallowStudio

My boys are obsessed with Halloween. Whether it’s because of the thought of being allowed to get a major sugar rush all in one day or all the fun and spooky decorations in every store we walk in to, they love it! I think Halloween is cool but I’m more of a Dia De Los Muertos person. I remember growing up in Mexico celebrating this beautiful holiday with delicious bread, traditional clay dishes, flowers and artisan crafts.

Dia De Los Muertos (or Day Of The Dead as it’s known in the United States) is a Mexican holiday in which friends and family gather together to pray for and remember their deceased loved ones. Traditionally the celebration takes place October 31st- November 2nd. People build private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and favorite foods and beverages of the departed. They also visit their graves and leave some of these as gifts along with a few possessions of the deceased.

{DIY} BACK-TO-SCHOOL APPLE MARSHMALLOW POPS

Back-to-school Apple Marshmallow Pops by TheMarshmallowStudio

Wowzers, this summer has flown by!!

Time to switch gears and get ready for my favorite part of the year – Fall and Winter. Sure I love having the kiddos at home, all the outdoor nights eating s’mores, and the hot water fun but there’s something magical about the leaves turning and the weather cooling down that makes me feel all giddy inside.

This year I’m particularly excited for back-to-school season. My boys are 3.5 and 5 years old. One will go into his second year in preschool and my other will go into Kindergarten. They are both finally going to be going to the same school and having the same schedule. Woohoo!! I’m that mom that make special gifts for the teachers and sends in special treats every special occasion. Teachers like me, haha!

To quick off this school year with A+ extra credit parent points, I’m going to be making my boy’s teachers baskets full of Apple Marshmallow Pops.

Making these pops is like second nature to me. I’ve been making marshmallow pops and art for over four years now.  Today you’re in luck my friend…. I’m going to teach you how to WOW your kid’s teachers too!

{DIY} FATHER’S DAY EASY MARSHMALLOW POPS

Father's Day MM Pops by TheMarshmallowStudio

June is Dairy Month, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Month, Seafood Month and Turkey Lover’s Month…. but all I can think about in June is Father’s Day!

I have so many wonderful memories with my dad. I am lucky to say that he has been a great father to me and my siblings.

Now that I have children, he’s proven to also be an amazingly loving and fun grandpa or “abuelito” as we would say in Spanish. Every year we celebrate him with a little cake, lots of hugs, kisses and by reminding him how much we love and appreciate him :)

{GUEST POST} ADVENTURES IN MARSHMALLOWS

This post is a little different than any of our previous post. Today, not only is this the first post from a guest contributor but it’s also a post about the trials and tribulations of a first time marshmallow designer.

A few weeks back I announced that we were accepting submissions and I was thrilled when Dina from Deliciously Darling Events sent me her post. I’ve had readers tell me they’ve attempted making marshmallow pops in the past but they’ve never gone into detail with me as to what their experience was like. I was excited to see that’s exactly what Dina’s post was about and how much my upcoming book will help her get better and faster at decorating marshmallows. So without further due….. I am delighted to share with you Dina’s experience:
