Decorating this Valentine’s Day cake could not have been easier!
I used JET-PUFFED Jumbo HeartMallows, frosting, and sanding sugar.
I begin to write this post as I’m sitting on my porch sipping on a warm cup of coffee topped to the tippity top with Pumpkin Spice Mallows……
If you follow me on Instagram you already know by now how much I love Fall. It’s my favorite season of the year. It’s when the weather cools down, I get to wear light sweaters, bake more, eat pumpkin everything, decorate my house in my favorite warm colors and gear up for the upcoming holidays.
There is a huge number of sweets and dessert recipes to make for Thanksgiving but I like to stick to a classic that is sure to be a hit with little ones and big ones alike. They’re easy to make, easy to serve and they taste delicious. Pre-made individual servings for your guests to grab and go are essential when you have lots of family and friends over and you don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen serving everyone or to have an ever growing dish pile up in the kitchen.
Although this little Halloween cake of mine didn’t turn out as envisioned, I think it’s pretty fun after all! It’s a two layer yellow cake, frosted with dark chocolate frosting and decorated with marshmallows…What’s not to love about this cute DIY Halloween Cake?!
Making fun projects like these for KRAFT Jet-Puffed Marshmallows every holiday is what I love the most about being their Community Manager. I seriously have the sweetest job ever!!
Oh Fall, how I love thee! Although we are still a few weeks away from Fall, having September finally here gets me all excited for what’s ahead. September is when the weather begins to cool down and we start prepping for the holidays ahead: Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. My boys recognize this time of the year with lots of pumpkin and apple desserts. This month is also when the days start to get shorter. It’s hard to stay energized through the evening when it gets dark outside early.
Pinch me. Pinch me.Pinch me!!!!
I have been featured inside the Summer 2013 issue of KRAFT Foods’ Food & Family Magazine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As if that wasn’t enough……………….
They also featured me inside their Spanish version, Comida y Familia!!!!!!!!
I could not in a million years afforded to pay for this type of exposure. I am forever thankful to my team at KRAFT Jet-Puffed Marshmallows for making this happen.
This cake just makes me happy.
It reminds me of how fortunate I am to have migrated to the United States when I was a little girl. My parents were looking for a way to provide my brother and I with more and for a way to live with freedom. This country adopted us and has indeed provided a world of opportunities. I am thankful to live here everyday! (more…)
February is my favorite month out of the year for so many reasons – it’s my birthday, my son Keiran was born, Valentine’s Day and it’s a short month! This year, I don’t seem to be as excited as usual about it, probably because I’m getting older and I’m starting to see wrinkles and gray hair Oh well, it’s life and I still have health, a family ,and a roof over my head… so it’s all good right?!
Anyways….. as Valentine’s Day draws near, I’m starting to see hearts, rose bouquets, boxes of chocolates and plush animals everywhere. It all got me thinking about what I should do for my Jet-Puffed marshmallow special project. The answer was right in front of me – ROSES! Not just any roses, but MARSHMALLOW ROSES
Here’s a confession, I don’t like real flowers. For many reasons – they die, they’re high maintenance, they’re expensive and then you have to clean the moldy vase. I’m more of a silk flower kind of girl. I know, I’m weird like that. These marshmallow roses are perfect for me because, they won’t perish, they won’t discolor, they won’t die, and they can look pretty on my desk year-round. Marshmallows get rock hard if not kept in an air-tight containers so in a few weeks these will be like rock candy. Pretty candy art!
I absolutely loved loved loved how they turned out.
See below for a few in-the-making photos and more…
During my son’s preschool teacher-parent conference his teachers asked me what did a “marshmallow designer” do?? They were intrigued after seeing my occupation listed on the school records. I smiled and said “I make all kinds of stuff with marshmallows!” That only seemed to have fueled their curiosity even more. They immediately asked me if I’d like to bring in something to their upcoming Halloween party. Well you guys know me…. I love challenges and having an excuse to play with marshmallows
I had been wanting to make marshmallow fondant for almost 3 years now but I never actually took the time to look up a recipe and give it a shot. As crazy as that may sound, maybe I’ve seen too many cake show competitions LOL but fondant just intimidated me to the point that I felt if it didn’t come out right I’d feel like a total fake “marshmallow expert”. Well, last night I decided to put my fears behind me and just do it!

I cannot tell you how fun it was to create this piece. I used over 14 different Jet-Puffed marshmallows and lots of royal icing and colored sugar. I also added a few Twizzlers, Oreo cookie crumbs and Wilton sprinkles to complete the scene. I knew I wanted to make a haunted house but, as you know me, I had to go all the say so I also included a cemetery and a pumpkin patch.
Can you see the ghosts inside the house?? That was my favorite part
