A family that bakes together, stays together!

Christmas is my all-time favorite holiday. In my house, we really go all out. For the whole month of December we bake, we cook, we drink, we laugh, we listen to Christmas music, and we make lots of memories. There are so many Christmas recipes to choose from out there that it makes me wish there were more days in the month so I could try them all. One thing is for sure, I will be making my famous (maybe just famous in my family haha) bacon quiche for Christmas breakfast and then I’ll try something new for dessert – cake balls! Wish me luck.

If you’ve been following me since 2010 you know that I love gingerbread houses. I have made a marshmallow gingerbread house every year and I still have them on display in my Studio too!

Trail Mix Crispy Treats with Drizzled Salted Caramel by TheMarshmallowStudio

Oh Fall, how I love thee! Although we are still a few weeks away from Fall, having September finally here gets me all excited for what’s ahead. September is when the weather begins to cool down and we start prepping for the holidays ahead: Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. My boys recognize this time of the year with lots of pumpkin and apple desserts. This month is also when the days start to get shorter. It’s hard to stay energized through the evening when it gets dark outside early.

Marshmallow Roses Cake by The MarshmallowStudio HERO

I love this cake so much that it took me almost two months to show it off to the world. I made it during my demo class at Cake Camp 2013 (read full recap here). I wanted to find the perfect backdrop and time to photograph it.

At last, here is my Marshmallow Roses Wedding Cake!!

It’s so cool to be able to develop recipes for KRAFT Tastemakers. Here’s a quick and yummy after school snack you can make for your kiddos
this year:Marshmallow Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches

I can’t believe it’s almost time to send my little Aiden back to school. He’s starting his second year in pre-school. Seeing him overcome his developmental obstacles, grow and enjoy learning has brought pure joy to me and my husband. I’m so thankful for his wonderful teachers and how much they have helped him blossom in just one year.

One of the highlights of my day is waiting outside for the school bus to drop him off. With a big smile, he jumps off the bus and gives me a big hug. Then he proceeds to tell me all about his day – what he ate, what he did, what he made. Once we walk in the door, it’s “mommy I’m hungry” time. I like having handy recipes for quick, easy snacks for him to enjoy. I often make him quesadillasbacon and egg burritos, sandwiches, chicken wraps, pasta salad, dips and fruit kabobs. He loves it when I make him Marshmallow Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches!

It’s a sweet, salty and crunchy snack that we pair with an apple and a cup of milk. Little brother is so excited to see him home again and enjoys eating these for lunch with him too. Once he gets older and his school day is longer, I’ll be sure to put these in his lunch box.

The Marshmallow Studio-Smores Camping Trip Marshmallow Cake

I think after all this time working with marshmallows I’ve learned that creating large showpieces is what I like doing the most. Every holiday and special occasion I get to create something special for KRAFT Jet-Puffed marshmallows. For this piece, I used 10 different varieties of marshmallows, sugar, royal icing, and Oreo cookie crumbs.

I often get emails inquiring about homemade marshmallows and custom logo orders. As most of you already know, we do not make our own marshmallow because we use store-bought marshmallows to make all of our designs nor have we been taking orders since last year due to the book and our contract work with KRAFT Jet-Puffed that have kept us busy. After I reply to them letting them know of this, the next question is usually:

“Do you know of anyone I can order them from?”

There are a few companies out there that I always refer business to and there are others that are just recently popping up (or at least I’m just finding out about them) that love marshmallows as much as I do. I’m going to list a few below so if you get ever need to order some you know where to go :)

Easter _ TMS

Wah-lah! A whole desserts table decorated with marshmallows perfect for an Easter or Springtime get-together. This is my latest project for KRAFT Jet-Puffed marshmallows. It’s always fun to go above and beyond and make a whole table rather than just one piece. I had a blast playing stylist and eating those yummy cupcakes afterwards ;)

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS (Day of the Dead, Mexico)

Although Dia De Los Muertos is mostly known as a Mexican holiday it is also celebrated throughout the world. Traditionaly on this day, friends and family members gather to pray and remember loved ones who have died. The celebration takes place on November 2. Most people build private little altars honoring the deceased and decorate them with sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. Some also visiting their graves and leave these items as gifts.

Who would have thought that powder blue looked soo good with orange and black for a Halloween party?

Jessica from Party Box Design knew!

She is a fabulous mega talented graphic designer and party stylist. Her parties are off the charts so when she asked me to design a special piece to go with her Wicked Annual Halloween Party printables…. I didn’t even have to think about it. (more…)
