SAN DIEGO CAKE CLUB 29TH ANNUAL CAKE SHOW

What an experience….

Although I am not a cake decorator, I am a sugar artist so I believe it’s very important to participate in local cake clubs and network with my fellow artists.  As you may already know from my previous posts, we are members of the California Cake Club (3 Cs) and the San Diego Cake Club (SDCC). Every year for the past 29 years, the SDCC has puts together a Cake Show Competition to benefit a charity and allow local artists to showcase their talents. This is the largest show of it’s kind in California.

This year the Cake Show Competition was held on March 10 & 11, 2012, inside the La Jolla Village Square Mall. The show benefited the Ronald McDonald House Charity of San Diego.  There were over 300 entries ranging from cakes and gelatin to cookies and (now) marshmallows 🙂

Lots and lots of people awwwing over the amazing showpieces.

The Kup Kake Corner was a fun station where kids could decorate their own cupcakes.

Check out all the gift baskets donated by various businesses to raffle off.  These baskets had some really cool things inside ranging from supplies to finished products/treats.

Here are a few of my favorite showpieces:

Mexico inspired cakes.

Colored Cocoa Butter Paintings.

Gelatin sculpting and structure.

Itty Bitty Sugar Cookies… they were suuuper cute!

AND then there’s marshmallows LOL

Our Marshmallow Easter Basket was placed in the Buttercream/Pastry Pride/Royal Icing Category (because it appears to be a cake decorated with marshmallows and royal icing was used) at Professional level (because I am a teacher).

And I won!!!

YAY!!!
