CAKE CENTRAL FEATURE: MARSHMALLOW WEDDING CAKE

Wowzers!!!!!!!!!!!! Is the above really my cake on Cake Central Magazine??? Yes, it is 🙂

I few months back I was surprised with an email inviting me to submit a “wedding piece” inspired by the inspiration board above. At first I was ecstatic then the panic sunk in… I realized I’d be submitting my work to a magazine filled with amazing eye-candy from professional sugar artist and honorable cake decorators from around the world. I kind of freaked out but took a deep breath and acted as if I knew what I was doing.

I began by drafting a few ideas and challenging myself to go outside of my comfort level. Although I had made mini wedding cakes in the past, they had never been “real” size which means I really had to put my skills to the test. This was the first time ever trying to decorate a big cake let alone with marshmallows!!

I used three square styrofoam cake dummies to form the cake and a styrofoam ball to top the cake. Then I completely coated them all with ivory sugar. Now, the fun decorating part began…

Roses, Frames, and Pearls, oh my…

Adding a Love Birds Nest to the mix 🙂

I had such a blast playing cake decorator that this may just be the first of many Marshmallow Wedding Cakes to come 😉

When you’re a one-man-show you also have to pretend you know about photography LOL

Here’s a fun behind-the-scenes photo of my husband photographing the cake

  2. I’m not surprised that Cake Central asked you to submit a wedding cake. You know how to work the marshamallow. I love that because I’m a marshmallow lover myself. Your cake is stunning and I love the birds on top 🙂
