Remember the Valentine’s Day cupcakes I made last month? Remember I said that this year instead of making large marshmallow showpieces I’d be showing you how to decorate cupcakes with KRAFT Jet-Puffed Marshmallows toppers?
Well… here’s my second DIY tutorial!
I’ve designed 6 different marshmallow cupcake toppers for St. Patrick’s Day. Keep in mind that you can use these toppers to decorate any other dessert as well.
(Above is a photo of all the items I initially got together to create these 6 designs. Please note that I have more large tips here than I actually ended up using and I also USED a green Airhead which is not pictured.)
For these toppers, I used products that are all easily available at your local craft store, Target and Walmart.
For all cupcake topper designs you’ll need Kraft JET-PUFFED marshmallows and Sweets & Treats Boutique cupcake liners.
Hope you are not tired of me raving about these cupcake liners. I just love love love how they stay bright and beautiful after baking in them. They are greaseproof!

Let’s get started with the fun now!
Shamrock topper
GRAB: Mini 1.5″ heart cutter, Wilton’s green Color Mist, 3 Jet-Puffed StackerMallows and 1 green Airhead candy.
MAKE: Dip cutters in water before punching out hearts from marshmallow. Spray green color on marshmallows evenly. Let dry completely before handling. Shape green candy into shamrock stem.
TIP: If hearts are too sticky, dust cornstarch on your fingers when handling them.
Irish flag topper
If you are looking for the EASIEST way to make festive St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes, these are for you!
GRAB: 1 Jet-Puffed StackerMallows and Wilton green FoodWriter markers in green and orange.
MAKE: Color the third left with green and the right third with orange.
TIP: You can pretty much use this same technique to make any country’s flag. (i.e. Mexican for Cinco de Mayo, Chinese for Chinese new year, American for 4th of July)
Leprechaum hat topper
Let’s step it up and add chocolate to the party!!
GRAB: 1 Keebler Fudge Stripes cookie, 1 large marshmallow, Baker’s Dipping Chocolate tub, green icing tube and Wilton gold edible glitter stars.
MAKE: Melt chocolate according to package instructions. Dip cookie and marshmallow completely into melted chocolate. Place marshmallow on top of center of cookie and set to harden on a piece of wax paper for a couple of hours. When chocolate as set, decorate green sash and shamrock on hat with green icing. Add gold stars.
EMBELLISH: Evenly sprinkle gold stars on frosting prior placing hat on it.
TIP: You can use green candy melts instead of chocolate to make a green hat. Then decorate sash and shamrock with yellow icing.
Confession: dipping marshmallow or anything into chocolate or candy melts is sooooo not my thing. I can never seem to get smooth pretty results.
However, I love piping 🙂 and it’s so easy to do with with frosting and jumbo decorating tips.
Pot of gold topper
This was the hubs favorite design!!
GRAB: 1 Jumbo Mallow, Baker’s Dipping Chocolate tub, 2 black candy pearls and gold shimmer pearls.
MAKE: Dip scissors in water and cut Jumbo marshmallow in half. Melt chocolate according to package instructions. Dip marshmallow completely into melted chocolate. Set aside on a piece of wax paper for chocolate to harden for a couple of hours. When chocolate as set, smear a little bit of melted chocolate on top of pot and attach gold shimmer pearls. Attach a black pearl onto each side of the pot.
EMBELLISH: Use Wilton tip 233 to frost cupcake with grass.
TIP: If you can’t find gold shimmer pearls, you can use any gold or yellow sprinkles.
Rainbow over clouds topper
Have the kiddos help you with this one!
GRAB: a handful of Mini Marshmallows, a few Mallow Bits and an Airhead Extremes rainbow candy strip.
MAKE: Insert candy strip ends into cupcake to form arch. Smear frosting on cupcake and attach marshmallows all over it.
TIP: You may use blue frosting instead of white to resemble the sky is you’d like.
Festive St. Patrick’s Day topper
GRAB: mini swirl lollipop, a few Mallow Bits, Wilton gold sugar and mini shamrock sprinkles.
MAKE: Frost cupcake swirling upward to create a high top. Insert lollipop to center. Decorate with sugar, shamrocks and Mallow Bits.
And there you have it. 6 super easy to make, and very cute marshmallow cupcake toppers for this St. Patrick’s Day!
I hope you liked them. I cannot wait to show you the ones I’ve made for Easter!!
